Most homophone sets have two words, but some have three or four. For each set of words, I\u2019ll include a short definition and an example of the words in use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em><strong>1. one, won<\/strong><\/em><br><em> one<\/em> (noun): The number after zero and before two.<br> As in 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em> won<\/em> (verb): \u201cWon\u201d is the simple past and past participle form of the verb \u201cto win.\u201d<br> Prisca <em>won<\/em> #50000 in her lottery game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">2.  <em><strong>wait, weight<\/strong><\/em><br> to<em> wait<\/em> (verb): This means to stay in one place or to anticipate something.<br> I had to <em>wait<\/em> in the rain for 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>weight<\/em> (noun): This word indicates how heavy something is.<br> I have lost a lot of <em>weight<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">3.  <strong><em>wear, where,were<\/em><\/strong><br> to <em>wear<\/em> (verb): To have clothing or accessories on your body.<br> I hate to wear tight pants<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>where<\/em> (interrogative): A question word used to ask for a location.<br> Where are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>were<\/em>:  past subjunctive of\u00a0be. Where were you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">4. <strong><em>son, sun<\/em><\/strong><br><em> son<\/em> (noun): A male child.<br> He has four sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>sun<\/em> (noun): The star at the center of our solar system. It\u2019s that big yellow thing in the sky during the day.<br> Don\u2019t look directly at the sun, or you\u2019ll damage your eyes. You may even lose your eyesight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">5. <strong><em>sight, site<\/em><\/strong><br> <em>sight<\/em> (noun): This is the sense that you use when you see or look.<br> Blind people have no sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>site<\/em> (noun): This is a synonym for \u201cplace.\u201d The most common modern use is in the word \u201cwebsite.\u201d<br> Building site and website<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\u201c<em>to cite<\/em>,\u201d which means \u201cto reference.\u201d <br> As in academic papers that have citations of other books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">6.<strong><em> their, there, they\u2019re<\/em><\/strong><br><em> their<\/em> (pronoun): The possessive pronoun for the subject \u201cthey.\u201d It shows ownership.<br> Their classroom is dirty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>there<\/em> (adverb): Remember the word \u201chere\u201d above? This is basically the opposite of that. \u201cThere\u201d can refer to any place where you are not at.<br> Are you there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>they\u2019re<\/em> (contraction): This is a contraction of the phrase \u201cthey are.\u201d<br> All the students passed their exams, so they\u2019re very happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">7. <strong><em>ate, eight<\/em><\/strong><br> ate (verb): This is the Past tense of the verb \u201cto eat.\u201d<br> I ate Rice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">eight (noun): The number after seven and before nine.<br> Paul arrived at 8 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">8.<strong><em> bare, bear<\/em><\/strong><br><em> bare<\/em> (adjective): If something is bare, it means that it\u2019s not covered or not decorated.<br> Stop walking around on bare feet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>bear<\/em> (noun): A large mammal.<br> I have a Teddy Bear<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>Bear<\/em> (verb): To endure especially difficult situations<br> She could not bear the sarcasm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>Bear<\/em> (verb): To give birth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">9.<strong><em> buy, by, bye, bi<\/em><\/strong><br> to<em> buy<\/em> (verb): A synonym of \u201cto purchase.\u201d <br> Please buy me Lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>by<\/em> (preposition): Commonly used to mean \u201cnext to\u201d or \u201cnear\u201d when describing a location. It can also indicate who created something.<br> I live by Nebo Crescent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>bye<\/em> (exclamation): This is a shortening of \u201cgoodbye.\u201d<br> I\u2019ve got to run, so bye! See you soon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>Bi<\/em>(noun): Meaning two.<br> As in Bisexual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">10. <strong><em>cell, sell<\/em><\/strong><br><em> cell<\/em> (noun): A cell is a small area or room, usually in a prison. A cell can also be one of the smallest divisions of a living organism.<br> Paul spent 10 days in his cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>to sell<\/em> (verb): To exchange a product or service for money. Like \u201cbuy,\u201d <br> We would like to sell our house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">11. <strong><em>dew, do, due<\/em><\/strong><br> <em>dew<\/em> (noun): Dew is the name for small drops of water that accumulate (gather) on plants and other objects outside during the night.<br> When I went outside early in the morning, the dew on the grass made my shoes wet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">to <em>do<\/em> (verb): This common verb is used to indicate an action. It can also be an auxiliary verb.<br> What do you usually do on Sunday nights?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>due<\/em> (adjective): This is used to indicate the deadline (final day) that something can happen. It\u2019s also used to indicate when a baby will probably be born.<br> The <a href=\"https:\/\/afribary.com\/works\">research<\/a> is due for submission on the 20th of June, 2019.<br> My friend is pregnant. It\u2019s a powder made from ground grains.<br> I made bread from corn flour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>flower<\/em> (noun): The decorative, colourful part of a plant.<br> Buy her a flower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">15.<strong><em> for, four<\/em><\/strong><br><em> for<\/em> (preposition): This preposition is usually used to indicate a person who receives something, or to indicate a purpose.<br> What is this for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>four<\/em> (noun): The number after three and before five.<br> As in 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">16.<strong><em> hear, here<\/em><\/strong><br> to <em>hea<\/em>r (verb): This is the action that you do with your ears. The sense is called \u201chearing.\u201d<br> I can\u2019t hear your voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>here<\/em> (adverb): \u201cHere\u201d indicates the place where you are at any moment.
