THE ROLE

The Recreation Special Needs Facilitator (Support Worker) monitors, supervises and supports special needs participants in recreation programs (e.g. lunch, bus loading/unloading, playground, gym, pool, washroom, field trips, public transportation, etc.). They assist with the development, planning and implementation of inclusive recreational activities. They liaise with colleagues, parents and other service providers. They assist with the development and prepare adaptive recreation activities, resources and/or materials.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

  • College diploma or certificate in Child Development, Recreation, Special Education Assistant, Special Needs Worker Program, or a related field AND several years of experience in a related field

OR

  • High school diploma AND extensive experience in a related field

AND

  • Current CPR and Standard First Aid certification
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Behavior Management Systems certification
  • Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)/Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) Therapy training, an asset
  • Current Automated External Defibrillator (A.E.D.) certification
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Accessibility Training
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport
  • HIGH FIVE Healthy Minds for Healthy Children

Experience

  • In supporting children/adolescents with special needs
  • In delivering activities for children with special needs
