Assessment Of Performance Of Claw Garepinus (African Catfish) Juveniles On Ducts Supplemented With Kola Pod Husk {Cola Niicfva)

Abstract A twelve-week feeding trial was carried out to assess the nutritive potentials of kola pod husk and to assess the growth performance of Clarias gariepinus juveniles on varying levels of kola pod husk- supplementation. The objective of this study was to assess the nutritive potentials of kola pod husk on the penance of C. gariepinus and its level of incorporation in such diets. Eight acpaimental bowls (6Ox30x30cm~ were used for the experiment There were four treatments with each treat...

The Role of Traditional Laws and Taboos in Wildlife Conservation in the Oban Hill Sector of Cross River National Park (CRNP), Nigeria

ABSTRACT Efforts to integrate rural people into biodiversity conservation through community-based conservation programs is an old tradition. These efforts were largely based on economic incentives, with little or no attention given to the role of culture and traditions in building support for conservation. Although these strategies are useful in promoting conservation and local empowerment, they are still fragile. Scholars suggest that incorporation of traditional values which reflect locall...

Lethal And Sub-Lethal Effects Of Copper To The African Catfish (Clarias Gariepinus) Juveniles

Lethal and sub-lethal effects of copper on Clarias gariepinus were studied using a 96-hour static bioassay.  Copper (as copper chloride, CuCl2 . H2O) was used to prepare the stock solution from which five standard concentrations 0.0, 1.8, 3.2, 5.6, and 10.0 mg/L were prepared (coded A – E).  15 juvenile C. gariepinus fish having a mean weight and length 5.8g and 18 cm respectively were used. The 96-hour LC50  estimated using the logarithm method were 0.6, 0.71 and 0.7 mg/l for replicates...

Wildlife-Human Interface: A Case Study Of Yankari National Park Bauchi State, Nigeria.

ABSTRACT Most of the serious problems facing protected areas in Africa today have a human component. Among the more common problems are human encroachment, unauthorized harvesting of resources, and the conflict between wildlife managers and local people. The study illustrates the major wild Animals, agricultural and livestock pest in the study area and the attitudes of the farmers/villagers to wild animal species. A land-use planning system that incorporate a floating zoning system which ulti...

A STUDY OF THE PLANKTON AND BENTHOS OF EKOLE RIVER IN BAYELSA STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT A study was undertaken to determine the plankton and benthos of Ekole River in Bayelsa State of Nigeria. Surface water and sediment samples were collected in the dry (December-January) and wet (June –July) seasons between 2003 and 2004 for plankton and benthic analyses. The water temperature ranged from 27-33°C, pH 6.30-7.5, total suspended solids (T.S.S) 110-282 mg/L, Chloride 15.40- 39.6 mg/l, dissolved oxygen 4.11-10.83 mg/l and conductivity 64.5-84.55µS/cm. The total plankton...

THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF COW BLOOD MEAL AND ITS EFFECT OF GROWTH PERFORMANCE, HAEAMATOLOGY AND PLASMA ENZYMES OF HYBRID CATFISH

ABSTRACT The nutritional potential of sun-dried cow blood meal (CBM) was investigated for its effect on growth performance, haematology and plasma enzyme activities in hybrid catfish fingerlings (Clarias gariepinus Male x Heterobranchus longifilis Female), in an assay that lasted for twelve weeks.

THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND SURVIVAL CLARIAS GARIEPINUS FRY RAISED IN HOMESTEAD CONCRETE TANKS

ABSTRACT Fertilizer application in earthen ponds has been used as a low cost method of sustainable aquaculture production.

NUTRITIVE POTENTIAL OF SWEET POTATOES PEEL MEAL AND REPLACEMENT VALUE FOR MAIZE DIETS OF AFRICAN CATFISH

ABSTRACT The study evaluated the potential of sweet potato meal as a replacement for maize at a varying inclusion levels in the diet of advanced fry of Clarias gariepinus.

Nursery Management of Clarias gariepinus: Utilization of sweet potatoes for food and Nutrition security

The nursery management of Clarias gariepinus is expensive and usually accompained by high mortality.

Assessment of Toxicological Impact of Light Crude Oil on Clarias Gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) Fingerlings

ABSTRACT Oil spillage is of critical concern in Nigeria because of the problems of pollution and associated disturbances. it is therefore necessary to study the effects of oil pollution on fish using clarias gariepinus, a widely cultured fish species in the tropics.

USE OF SESAME SEED CAKE AS REPLACEMENT FOR FISH MEAL IN DIETS FOR CATFISH, CLARIUS GLARIEPINUS

ABSTRACT A 6 week feeding trail was conducted in glass tanks with juveniles Clarius glariepinus to examine the effects of partial and total replacement of fishmeal with sesame seed cake protein.

GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF CLARIAS GARIEPINUS JUVENILES ON COCOA POD HUSK-SUPPLEMENTED DIETS

ABSTRACT An experiment was undertaken to determine the effect of boiling of cocoa pod husk and levels of inclusion that will positively affect the growth rate of CIarias gariepinus, a major species of importance cultured in Nigeria Cocoa Pod husk is a by-product of cocoa industry often discarded as Waste. This study was to assess the effect of incorporation of boiled Cocoa pod husk into the diets of C.gariepinus juveniles.

PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CROSS RIVER AND COASTAL AREAS OF CROSS RIVER AND AKWA IBOM STATES, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT A study was carried out to determine the physico-chemical characteristics of the water of the Cross River and coastal areas of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States of Nigeria.

The Body Weight Changes and Gut Morphometry of Clarias gariepinus juveniles on Feeds Supplemented with Walnut (Tetracarpidium conophorum) Leaf and Onion (Allium cepa) Bulb Residues

ABSTRACT This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of walnut (T. conophorum) leaf and onion (A. cepa) bulb on the gut morphometry of Clarias gariepinus towards elucidating its mechanism of growth promotion. Twenty Clarias gariepinus juveniles (7.39±0.29g/ fish) were allocated to nine treatments, with three replicates each. Nine experimental diets were formulated at 40% crude protein representing different level of walnut leaf and onion bulb (0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) respectivel...

TOXIC STRESS OF LEAD ON CLARIAS GARIEPINUS (AFRICAN CATFISH) FINGERLINGS

ABSTRACT Toxicity testing of chemicals on animals has been used for a long time to detect the potential hazards posed by chemicals to man. Bioassay technique has been the cornerstone of programmes on environmental health and chemical safety (Ward and Parrish, 1982). Lead is a potentially toxic chemical that may be directly ingested by man or indirectly through aquatic animals like fish and shellfish .The effects of lead on man include mental retardation, learning dysfuntion, and loss of coord...
