Optimization and Screening of Extracellular Enzymes produced by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa during LDPE degradation

ABSTRACT Plastics are synthetic polymers made by chains of carbon atoms with hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, Sulphur built around the carbon chains (Shah et al., 2008). These polymers are involved in every domain of our lives ever since its production began from the year 1950’s, plastics have been produced at an augmented rate to meet day to day demands of the entire world. Accumulation of plastic waste in the environment causes chemical pollution when methods like incineration are used to get ...

BIOACCUMULATION OF PERSISTENT POLLUTANTS IN AFRICAN CATFISH

This project titled Bioaccumulation of persistent pollutants in Clarias gariepinus gotten from Ogu Creek is based on ecotoxicology and utilized African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) as a model in estimating the bioaccumulation of pollutants in living tissues of organisms in Ogu creek which is a point of poorly treated effluent discharge. The persistent pollutants include Zn, Cr, Cd, Pb, Mn, and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH). The concentrations of the heavy metals were determined with Atomi...

Design and Construction of Paint Factory in Makurdi

CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1  BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Paint Factory or plant is an industrial site, usually consisting of buildings and machinery, or more commonly a complex having several buildings, where workers process raw materials into paint. Factories arose with the introduction of machinery during the industrial revolution when the capital and space requirements became too great for cottage industry and workshops. Paint is a subdivision of surface coating. It is a relatively opaq...

The Design of a Disaster Management Centre, Port-Harcourt

INTRODUCTION  "Disaster management" can be defined as the range of activities designed to maintain control over disaster and emergency situations and to provide a framework for helping at-risk persons to avoid or recover from the impact of the disaster. Disaster management deals with situations that occur prior to, during, and after the disaster. Globally, there has been lots of disaster on land, air and sea, though these disasters may be natural or man-made, it has however led to the destru...

Design of a Domestic Airport Terminal Building

CHAPTER ONE    INTRODUCTION  The subject of airport passenger terminal building must involve a discussion of transportation. Transportation has remained one of the most vital factors that influence the development of a nation. The credibility of this statement has been proven over the centuries, that if one decides to take a critical look at earlier civilizations, from the time of early Egyptian civilization to the current civilized world, one will discover that many of the great feats ac...

The Effects Of Slum On Rental Property Values

CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY According to historical accounts (Leadership Newspaper), Asata, Coal camp, New market, Ogui urban including Obiagu areas of the city belongs to Ogui Nike people. But during the colonial era, the white men started developing parts of the land owned by the Ogui Nike people. That explains why Obiagu is presently inhabited by people from almost the five south east states namely; Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo and even the present day Enugu s...

A Comparative Analysis Of Rental Variation In Residential and Commercial Properties in Nigeria

CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Shelter is a basic necessity in life. An individual can satisfy this need by either occupying his own (owner’s occupier) property or renting another person’s property. In our traditional society, the need for shelter is mainly met through the first alternative that is owner occupation. With the emergency of urban centers’, the situation has changed. Many people are no longer about to own property because of the difficulty in th...

Biochemical Analysis of Adulterants in Milk

Work on finding the milk quality and Adulterants present in the milk for decreasing their quality and increasing quantity.

Spectrophotometric Determination of Chromium (Iii) and Chromium(Vi) Using 2-[E)-[3-[(2-Hydroxybenzylidene) Amino]PhenylImino)Methyl]Phenol

ABSTRACT The Schiff base ligand, 2-[(E)-[{3--[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino]phenyl}imino)methyl]phenol was synthesized by condensing 1,3-diaminobenzene and 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde in absolute ethanol. Its Cr(III) and Cr(VI) complexes were equally synthesized. The ligand was characterized via UV, IR and NMR spectroscopy, whereas the complexes were characterized based on UV and IR spectroscopy and conductivity values. Stoichiometric studies indicated 1:1 metal to ligand ratio for both complexes. C...

Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in the Population Study of Achara Layout Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT This project is an attempt to study population distribution in Achara Layout Enugu, in Enugu State through integration of Remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). The Remote sensing data used in this study included high spatial resolution Quick Bird imagery. Questionnaires were given out for use in generating the desired product in an interactive GIS environment. Field site capturing was based on basic survey principle, technique and instruction. Field work was done t...

Commercial Horticulture practice in Nigeria: Its Socio-spatial Effects in Abuja Municipal Area Council

This was the work I used as my project topic, where I sampled the opinion of people living in Abuja. The impact of horticulture on life is very essential especially during the heat season and the discussion of climate change.

ESTIMATING THE NET SURFACE SHORTWAVE RADIATION USING MODIS DATA

Net Surface Shortwave Radiation (NSSR) is a key quantity for the estimation of net radiation (𝑅𝑛) and 𝑅𝑛 is a key component of the Earth energy balance. The most practical and reliable method for estimating solar radiation is based on remote sensing because remote sensing observation values are practical than location based measurements. It has been observed that existing ancillary data are not sufficient to have an accurate solar radiation estimates due to the limited amount of g...

Ecological Economics : Valuation of Ecosystem services

Ecosystem services are the beneficial outcomes, for the natural environment or people that result from ecosystem functions. Some examples of ecosystem services are support of the food chain, harvesting of animals or plants, and the provision of clean water or scenic views. In order for an ecosystem to provide services to humans, some interaction with, or at least some appreciation by humans is required. Thus, functions of ecosystems are value-neutral, while their services have value to...

Spectrophotometric Determination of Paracetamol using Zirconium (Iv) Oxide and Ammonium Trioxovanadate (V)

ABSTRACT A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of paracetamol was explored, using zirconium(IV) and vanadium(V) oxides. The method was based on the oxidation of paracetamol by zirconium(IV) and vanadium(V) in alkaline and acidic media respectively. The stoichiometric studies indicated a mole-ratio of 1:1 for the reactions of paracetamol with both zirconium(IV) and vanadium(V). Effects of other variables like pH, temperature and time were determined and showed...
