Bioactive constituents, in vitro radical scavenging and antibacterial activities of selected Apis mellifera honey from Kenya.

Abstract: here is limited information about the relative composition and health benefits of various honey consumed across Africa. This study aimed at estimating the bioactive constituents, in vitro radical scavenging and antibacterial activities of 16 kinds of honey obtained from different geographical locations in Kenya. Manuka 5 + honey was included for comparison. Some of the tested honey had biochemicals and bioactivities similar to or higher than Manuka 5 + honey. The honey exhibited ...

Preferences of Bangladeshi Anatomists on the use of Different Styles of Presenting Embryology Illustrations in Powerpoint Slides.

ABSTRACT Background: Embryology is a visual subject that relies heavily on illustrations in understanding the subject, as most of the structures are not seen by naked eyes. Embryology lectures have mostly delivered using PowerPoint slides to show the microscopic structures involved during various stages of development. However, the styles of projecting the illustrations on PowerPoint slides differs greatly among the teachers. This different style of presentation is the deciding factors whi...

Effectiveness of Different Ways of Presenting Neuroanatomy Illustration in Powerpoint Slides on Nursing Student’s Short-term Learning Memory

ABSTRACT Introduction: Neuroanatomy is considered as difficult subject as it consists mostly of complicated microscopic structures. However, understanding of the subject structure is very important for nursing students to know its functions and dysfunctions for enhancing nursing practices. To date, teaching neuroanatomy relies heavily on illustrations and the most common way is by using PowerPoint slides, but teachers are often faced with dilemma on how to use illustrations effectively. Th...

Overexpression of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Its Correlation with Clinicopathological Characteristics in Central Uganda

ABSTRACT Aims: The aims of the current study were to determine the prevalence of epidermal growth factor (EGFR) receptor in patients diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) as well as assessing the correlation of overexpression of EGFR with age, gender and tumor grades of the cases. Study Design: This was a cross-sectional analytical study.

ANALYSIS OF TONGUE PANGOLINS

The macro – and micro - anatomy of the tongue were studied in African pangolins. Eight (8) healthy pangolins, Manis tricuspis, were used in this study. The average body weight and body length were 1449.42 ± 220.15 g, 115.75 ± 6.75 cm respectively.  The average tongue weight and length were determined to be 19.75 ± 0.85 g and 66.38 ± 11.92 cm respectively while the relative tongue weight (RTW) and relative tongue length (RTL) were 1.10% and 56.38% respectively. The findings of this work...
