PRODUCTION, PROPERTIES AND SHELF - LIFE OF INTERMEDIATE MOISTURE SNAIL MEAT

ABSTRACT This research was carried out to study the influence of three cooking methods (frying, smoking and roasting) on the physicho-chemical properties and the shelf – life of snail meat (Achachatina marginata). The snail meat was first washed using different washing agents (lime, alum, salt and ash) and through sensory evaluation, the best washing agent was selected and used to prepare snail meat samples for subsequent processing. The snail from the best washing agents was divided into ...

Studies On Microbiological And Physico- Chemical Analyses Of Commercially And Laboratory Prepared Orange Juices

ABSTRACT Microbiological and physico-chemical analyses and sensory evaluation were carried out on commercially and freshly prepared orange juice (100%) in the laboratory and its shelf- life after the storage period of 90 days using various storage methods. At the end of the study, the result showed that the laboratory processed orange juice in terms of the nutritional composition when compared with the commercially processed orange juice had a better quality considering the parameters assess...

Reconfigurable Switch or Valve for Microfluidics

A method to create smart and flexible switches for the regulation of liquid flow across multiple channels is essential in paper microfluidics. Prior approaches are hampered by long response times, high actuation fluid volumes, and external control circuitry. To diminish these problems, we designed a distinctive actuator device fashioned entirely from chromatography paper and featuring folds. The fold can be selectively wetted by an actuation fluid at either the crest or trough, resulting in t...

Microfluidics for Drug Screening and Paralysis of Parasites

The emergence of new drugs is often driven by the escalating resistance of parasites to existing drugs and the accessibility of more advanced technology platforms. Microfluidic devices have allowed for quicker testing of compounds, regulated sampling/sorting of entire animals, and automated behavioral pattern detection. In the majority of microfluidic devices, the effects of drugs on small animals (e.g. Caenorhabditis elegans)elegant are quantified by an endpoint, dose response curve that sho...

Urbanization and Loss of Wetland in Port-Harcourt Metropolis, Nigeria

ABSTRACT Urban development in wetland ecosystems for human settlement, agriculture and industrial development is one of the biggest threats to wetland conversion and management. Prediction of future urban expansion is very useful for urban planners and environmental managers in rapidly growing cities. This study aims to examine urbanization and loss of wetland in the Port-Harcourt metropolis, using remote sensing techniques. The study analyzes land use /land cover changes (LULC) using landsa...

Copper and Iron Distribution in Soil Profiles and Some Selected Vegetables of Saje and Sango Dump Sites

The current study was designed for determination of copper and iron and some physicochemical properties of soils collected from two selected dumpsites (Saje and Sango) in Ogun State, Nigeria by digging two depths of about 125cm. Samples were taken at different depth intervals of 25cm (i.e 0-25, 25-50, 50-75, 75-100 and 100-125cm). The soil were analyzed for physicochemical parameters such as Organic carbon, Organic matter, Soil pH, Electrical conductivity, Particle size, Cation Exhangeable Ca...

Use of Petri Net in Protocol Specification

Abstract  This project work is concerned with application of Petri Net in protocol specification. In this project work, definition of Petri Nets and Protocols are given. The role and importance of formal specification techniques are also discussed. Petri Nets are a graphical tool and could be used for the formal description of the flow of activities in complex systems like protocol. It is gaining popularity in recent years as a tool for the representation of complex logical interactions like...

Production and Quality Evaluation of Spoonable and Drinkable Yoghurt with Watermelon (Citrullus Lanatus) Juice and Pulp

ABSTRACT Yoghurt was produced and flavoured with graded levels of watermelon pulp and juice. Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) juice and pulp was used to substitute 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% of yoghurt. The chemical, sensory and microbiological properties of the yoghurts were determined. The results showed that the pH of the yoghurt ranged from 4.68 to 4.90. The protein, ash, and fat content decreased with increase in watermelon juice and pulp. The fiber content increased with the watermelon pu...

Interpretation of High Resolution Aeromagnetic Data over Okigwe and some Adjoining Areas, South Eastern Nigeria.

ABSTRACT  Digitized high resolution total field aeromagnetic data over Okigwe and environ (Sheet 312) was interpreted using the standard 3-D Euler de-convolution and spectral analysis in order to determine depth to the magnetic basement, delineate the basement topography and relief, and delineate the trend of the structural features associated with the basin. The aeromagnetic data were subjected to various data enhancement and transformation routines using the Geosoft Oasis MontajTM software...

Convergence in Norm of Modified Krasnoselskii-Mann Iteration for Fixed Points of Asymptotically Demi Contractive Mappings

Abstract  This project report deals with the class of asymptotically demicontractive mappings in Hilbert spaces. We noted some historical aspects concerning the concept of asymptotically demicontractivity and studied a regularized variant of the Krasnoselskii-Mann iteration scheme, which ensured the strong convergence of the generated sequence towards the least norm element of the set of fixed points of asymptotically demicontractive mapping. Intranet-Based Wiki with Instant Messaging Protocol

Abstract  This project developed an Intranet-Based Wiki with Instant Messaging Protocol (IBWIMP) for the Staff of the Department of Computer Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka to enable them collaborate on tasks; like writing of documents like, memo, project guidelines, proposal/grants, and circulars with online security consideration. The essence of this work is to improve on the contributions staff make during work, in carrying out tasks with their colleagues irrespective of the person...

Fabrication and Characterization of Zeolites and its Application in Heavy Metal Capture

ABSTRACT Zeolite crystals were synthesized by mixing sodium silicate and sodium aluminate to obtain aluminosilicate gel which was further treated hydrothermally to obtain the final product. The zeolite crystals were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD result identified the synthesized crystals as zeolite z; additional evidence was provided by the SEM images which showed that the zeolite crystals were disc-shaped and the particle sizes rang...

Software Bugs: Detection, Analysis and Fixing

ABSTRACT  This research work is concerned with the detection, analysis and fixing of software bugs. The objective of this work was to identify software development process with a focus of identifying cost effective methods of developing and managing software systems by introducing a post-deployment debugging approach which helps track software’s stability and at same time serve as a software bug-data repository. To achieve this objective, a web-based application –BugTracker was developed...

Fabrication and Capacitive (C-V) Characteristics of Conjugated Polymer Composite (P-PolyanilineN-Wo3) Heterojunction

Abstract A nanocrystalline and porous p-Polyaniline/n-WO3 dissimilar heterojunction at ambient temperature is reported. The high-quality and well-reproducible conjugated polymer composite films have been fabricated by oxidative polymerization of anilinium ion on predeposited WO3 thin film by chemical bath deposition (CBD). X-ray diffraction analysis of the deposited WO3 films revealed that as-deposited film was amorphous; however, an amorphous-to-crystalline phase transition was observed by ...
