About The Scholarship
Tuition fee-paying (non EU/EEA) students can apply for a scholarship to cover a part or the whole tuition fee.
There are two scholarship categories:
- Tuition Fee Scholarship, covering 100 % of the tuition fee, awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)
- Tuition Fee Scholarship, covering 50 % of the tuition fee, awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)
The decision to grant a scholarship is based on
- the academic performance of the applicant in his/her previous studies,
- how well the applicant meets the programme requirements
- the answers the applicants have given in the application form
When applying to Åbo Akademi University, applicants can indicate on the application form their wish to apply for a scholarship. In the application form the applicants are asked to answer a set of questions related to motivation and future goals. The answers to the questions will be assessed by the scholarship committee who makes the decision on granting the scholarships. In the assessment the following is evaluated: communicative skills, academic goals and general interest in the field.
The decision on the granted scholarship is given to the applicants together with the admission letter. In order to accept the scholarship the applicant must have accepted the study entitlement offered (binding acceptance).
Scholarships are awarded for two years, however, the second year is conditional depending on the progress of the studies. In order to secure the scholarship for the second year, a scholarship holder must earn at least 55 ECTS (for 100% scholarships)/ 45 ECTS (for 50% scholarships) during the first academic year (the progress of the studies is checked at the end of May).
Requirements
- Applicants with a university bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants with a Finnish Polytechnic (university of applied sciences) degree.
- Applicants who have already completed a master’s degree.
- Applicants who have not yet completed a bachelor’s degree.
- An officially certified or legalized copy of the original Bachelor’s degree certificate and relevant Master’s degree certificate in the original language.
Note that if you are applying with a for the programme relevant master’s degree you will always need to also enclose your bachelor’s degree certificate. - Translation of original degree certificate(s) in English, Swedish or Finnish.
- An officially certified or legalized copy of the original transcript of records of all higher education studies completed so far, including present studies, in the original language.
- Translation of original transcripts of records to English, Swedish or Finnish.
- A diploma supplement must be enclosed when available.
- Proof of language skills in English, please see information about language requirements
- Copy of passport (information page containing the applicant’s name, date of birth, nationality and photo)
- Residence permit (required only for non-EU/EEA-applicants already residing in Finland or some other EU country on a more permanent basis, both sides needed)
- Any other enclosure required by the programme (please see the programme presentations) or relevant for the application
