About The Scholarship
Awarded to a full or part-time graduate student in the College of Education whose career or scholarly interests focus on the concerns and needs of international students. Based on need and merit. Established in memory of Dr. Opstad (BA ’51/MA ’54/PhD ’58) by his children David, Laura and Carol.
This award was established in 1994 to honor the memory of Dr. Paul Opstad. Paul E. Opstad (B.A. 1940, M.A. 1954, and Ph.D. 1958) was a native Iowan who spent most of this career at California State University, Long Beach. During his 25 years there, Dr. Opstad served as foreign student advisor, taught psychology, and worked in the counseling center. He had a great interest in working with international students. He spent a year in Taiwan and the Philippines on a Fulbright Scholarship and worked as a Foreign Service officer with the U.S. Information Agency in Calcutta.
Requirements
- Graduate degree courses in any field offered by the university.
- To be eligible, candidates must have an undergraduate degree from a recognized university.
- Candidates must have to submit the transcript, photographs, letter of recommendation, resume, photocopy of passport, and pre-qualification degree.
