About The Scholarship

Each year Vanderbilt awards merit-based scholarships to applicants who demonstrate exceptional accomplishment and intellectual promise. These students represent the top 1 percent of all freshman applicants to Vanderbilt, and with the limited number of merit scholarships available, the selection process is very competitive.

All merit-based scholarships offered at Vanderbilt are renewable through four years of undergraduate study as long as the recipient maintains satisfactory academic performance. Each of the four undergraduate schools awards a number of scholarships proportionate to the school’s enrollment. Financial need is not a factor unless otherwise indicated.

Requirements

  • International applicants will be prompted to complete an international section of the Common Application
  • Official results of the  TOEFL ,  TOEFL Special Home Edition ,  IELTS ,  PTE Academic , or  Duolingo English Test   if applicable*
  • A completed College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile, if applicable
  • All required parts of the Coalition Application or Common Application
  • $50 nonrefundable application fee, or fee waiver for qualified students
  • Official high school transcript
  • Counselor letter of recommendation
  • Two academic teacher letters of recommendation
  • Optional for students applying for fall 2021 entry:  SAT or ACT scores (SAT code: 1871 / ACT code: 4036)
  • To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria

How To Apply

To be considered for merit scholarships, students must first apply for admission separately by submitting the Common Application, Coalition Application, or the QuestBridge Application to Vanderbilt. Within two business days of submitting your application for admission to Vanderbilt, you will receive an email from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions explaining how to create your online MyAppVU account. Under the Scholarship tab in MyAppVU, you will be able to select the signature scholarship(s) to which you wish to apply. Through your MyAppVU portal, you will upload your responses for the scholarship applications as a PDF or Word document and submit online. Once you submit your scholarship application online, you will receive immediate confirmation indicating the date of submission. You will also see a green check mark which indicates the application was submitted successfully. If you do not see a green check mark or date of submission, your application was not successfully submitted.
