Opportunity: The Children’s Prize Award
Type: Award
Value: $150,000
Location: Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Who Can Apply: Scientifically-Minded Individuals with a Passion for Global Child Health
About The Award
The Children’s Prize is awarded to scientifically-minded individuals with a passion for global child health and a strong commitment to verify the impact of their work. Between 2013 and 2020, the Prize has awarded over $1,850,000.00 to such individuals and organizations across the globe.
In 2014, two projects were selected as case studies to strengthen the development and more accurately determine the impact of child mortality of a Prize focused on data and scientific proof. These case studies served as real-world scenarios to help us better understand what changes needed to be made in terms of data collection and analysis, and how the Prize could be refined to best address those needs.
Requirements
- The Children’s Prize is available to anyone. Proposals will be accepted from non-profits (charities), for profits (companies), government programs, academic institutions, and individuals aged 18 years or older. However, the prize funds may only be used for charitable purposes, as specified in the contest goals.
- We encourage all applicants to take the time to learn about our project’s priorities as discussed here before submitting an ENTRY FORM application.
- It is in the best interest and benefit of the applicant to be as thorough and convincing as possible regarding the information provided to the Prize.
- The Prize is purposely vague to allow entrants to creatively and convincingly express their unique vision to save the greatest number of children’s lives possible.
- Applicants are encouraged to use or set up online accounts that may be very helpful to us in the judging of Prize entries. Some of these accounts could include (but are not limited to) YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Twitter, FaceBook, G+, Blogs, Instagram, Pinterest, Slideshare, Tumblr, etc.

How To Apply
The contest process includes three major rounds and two review periods. See details below.
Round 1: Contest participation kicks off with submission of the brief entry form. After all Round 1 submissions have been reviewed, applicants will be notified of their eligibility to continue.
Round 2: Invitation only. Those applicants selected from Round 1 will be asked to provide a more detailed application and required supporting material. Once the second round closes, there will be an additional review period to select finalists and applicants will be notified of the decision.
Round 3: Q&A and judging. Finalists will undergo a Q&A by the prize administrators and judges, and a thorough review of all materials submitted by the expert panel. Once this final review is complete, the judges then vote and the Prize winner announcement is made.
