ABSTRACT
The main purpose of the study was to assess the technical efficiency of the manual screw press in palm oil extraction industry in Ghana, using the Asokore Mampong Municipality as a case study. This study adopted the case study strategy. Quantitative research approach was used for the study. The population consisted of all palm oil extractors in the Asokore Municipality. Non- random sampling technique by convenience was adopted to select 152 respondents for the study. Questionnaires were the main instrument used to collect data for the study. Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for Social Studies (SPSS) were used to analyse data. Tables, charts, frequencies and percentages were used to present the findings of the study. The study results concluded that, the manual screw press is technically efficient because it processes faster than traditional method of extraction, yields more palm oil and yields higher quality palm oil than traditional method of extraction. The researcher recommended that the Government of Ghana, through the Agricultural Development Bank Limited and Micro finance institutions should provide flexible loans to palm oil extractors to acquire the manual screw press machines to produce unadulterated palm oil in large quantities for local consumption and export.
