Effect of Glocalise Activity-based Computer Science Curriculum on Secondary school students' Academic Performance in Ilorin Metropolis

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the effect of glocalise activity-based computer science curriculum on secondary school students’ academic performance in Ilorin metropolis. Glocalisation involves adapting globalise curriculum content to local contexts, making learning more relevant and effective. The study addresses four major research questions which are; (i) how is computer science taught in senior secondary school using glocalise curriculum; (ii) what are the differences in the academic performance of students of students taught computer science using the glocalise activity-based curriculum and those taught using traditional curriculum? (iii) what are the differences in the performance of students taught computer science using glocalise activity-based curriculum across class? (iv) what are the students’ and teachers’ feedbacks on the usage of glocalise activity-based curriculum as a means of teaching the students computer science in senior secondary school? The study employed a quasi-experimental design, with forty (40) students of a senior secondary school and sixteen (16) teachers. The selected students in the school were taught computer science using the glocalised activity-based curriculum and their results were compare with that when they were taught using traditional curriculum. Results showed significant improvements in students' computer science knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in the teaching with glocalise activity-based curriculum compared to the teaching with traditional method. The study concludes that a glocalised activity-based curriculum enhances computer science education in senior secondary schools in Kwara State, providing implications for curriculum reform and teacher training
