Introduction
Energy is essential for the creation of wealth and improvement of social welfare; this means that, adequate and reliable supply of energy is required to ensure sustainable development. However, the use and conversion of primary energy most of the time results in waste and emission; they are harnessed from limited resources which are considered environmentally unsustainable. The increasing rate of environmental problems related to energy use has led to a growing interest in issues of sustainable development thereby leading to a challenge of decoupling of economic growth and energy use (environmental threats related to energy use). This ―decompling‖ between economic growth and energy use extends to the need of judicious use of resources, technology, appropriate incentives and strategic policy planning (IAEA, 2005).
