Study of InterNetworking of 3G on Wireless Local Area Networks

ABSTRACT

The need to internetwork wireless mobile telecommunication systems with 3rd generation mobile network 3G with high mobility and wireless local area network WLAN with high data rates, is important in this new age of technological development. In this study, scientific and technical literature were reviewed to give an indebt knowledge of the previous design and research made in the given area of study. The current methods of internetworking heterogenous networks, the mobile IP method, the Gateway method and the Emulator Method were analysed. A simulated model to evaluate the performance of the mobile IP method, the gateway method and the emulator method were developed. The gateway method had an acceptable level of handover hence was adopted and tested. The gateway method showed that the internetworking of 3G on wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) has an acceptable level of Handover.
