Equity and Quality in Nigerian Education (A Book of Readings in Honour of) Professor C.N. Musa

FOREWORD

I am delighted and honoured to write the foreword of this Book of Readings titled Equity and Quality in Nigerian Education: A Book of Readings in Honour of Prof. C.N. Musa. Edited by a team of highly skilled and professional members of the academia, this book of readings was painstakingly put in place for two primary reasons. First, this book project was executed by the Department of Educational Foundations of the Faculty of Education, University of Benin, to honour and celebrate a senior colleague - Prof. C.N. Musa - who laboured vigorously, invested his time, intellect and talent in promoting the vision, mission and values of the University of Benin. He meritoriously gave his best to the institution throughout his service years and thus, deserves to be honoured by the Department where he served as the pioneer Head, the University where he functioned in various capacities and the nation at large. Second, this book will, no doubt, be a valuable reference text for students of Education since it features high quality, well-researched scholarly articles and the views of experts across the spectrum of Education. It provides, also, an extensive review of literature and discussions on equity and quality in our educational system. 

The title of the book is very appropriate especially now that our great nation, Nigeria, urgently needs quality and equitable education for development. The contents of the book, I believe, will be very useful to policy makers, also, for solving many of the country’s challenges bothering on quality and equity in our educational system. 

   Finally, I congratulate Prof. C.N. Musa whose life and dedication to service inspired this book; the Department of Educational Foundations for this laudable initiative and all the contributors as well as the editors for doing a great job.
