ADVANCED VEHICLE SIMULATOR (ADVISOR) PERFORMANCE CHARACTERIZATION OF A SERIES HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Abstract: Series hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) formed by a combination of internal combustion engine and batteries/ultra capacitors in the appropriate ways, provides high-performance and high efficiency power systems for HEV applications. This paper discusses the performance characteristics of series HEV using advanced vehicle simulator. Different sizes of motor and engine were utilized with various battery capacities to explore the optimal component combinations. A comparative simulation was carried out for series HEV and conventional vehicle under different drive cycles. The simulation results showed a considerable reduction in fuel consumption and gas emission for a series HEV when compared with equivalent size of conventional vehicle.
