ABSTRACT

This book is a presentation of the findings of the study about the contributions of the NGOs towards girl child education in Namataba Zone in W akiso District. The study was carried out primarily to collect data about the subject through finding out how the NGOs contribute towards the promotion of girl child education, for example finding out what contributions have been made by CVTS in the promotion of girl child education in Namataba zone,Wakiso district, assessing the challenges faced by NGOs in the promotion of girl child education, the impact of CVTS in the area of study, the contribution of government towards the promotion of girl child education, the challenges faced by government in the promotion of girl child education, the community contribution towards girl child education in the area and the possible solutions to the challenges faced by all the stake holders in the promotion of girl child education in the area of study. The findings are based on 35 individual students respondents from CVTS and 15 staff respondents of CVTS.The sample population was selected using random sampling procedures, the selected people were investigated using questionnaires, face- to- face interviews and direct observation. Some of the questionnaires were self administered while others were group administered. The findings of the research indicated 100% knowledge ofNGOs by the staff of CVTS I lout of 35 student respondents did not know about NGOS. Of the staff respondents 100% accepted awareness of some programmes funded by NGOs in the area of study, 8 out of 35 student respondents accepted awareness of programmes funded by NGOs and 27/ 35 student respondents did not know of any progran1111es funded by NGOs in the area. The large gap between those who knew and those who did not know implies that NGOs still have a lot to do to abridge the gap. The findings of the study indicated that there were several funders to CVTS and such funders included the parents, the community, the government, the Catholic Church and other NGOs. The study findings will be of substantial use lo the parents, the community, NGOS and the government in the promotion of girl child education in the area and the country at large.
