ABSTRACT
Rural water supply has been a problem in most parts of Tanzania especially in Central Zone. This aimed to assess the households‟ accessibility to clean and safe water from natural springs for domestic use. It examined the current availability of clean and safe water from the natural spring, examined the affordability of clean and safe water from the natural spring and challenges facing the community from accessing clean and safe water from the natural spring. The study used probability and non-probability sampling techniques. With probability sampling, simple random sampling was used to select the households in the study area. Non – probability sampling was for key informants. The Primary data were collected through interview method. Secondary data were obtained through reports, internets, books, magazines and journals. This study assessed the households‟ accessibility to clean and safe water from the natural spring for domestic use. Among the research findings indicate that, 62.9% of the households, accessed water beyond 400 meters and 88.7% households were facing with water rationing. The findings show that, 68% spent more than 30 minutes for searching water. It was caused by long queuing in water point where 44.3% of the households reported to have long queuing in the water points, 40.2% of the households‟ accessed water after several days due to water rationing.
