Constrains Of Sustainability Of Development Project In Rural Communities (Case Study : Water Basin Management Project - Blue Nile State – )Alkadalo Villages()

Abstract

This study aimed to identifying the most important obstacles of the sustainability of

development projects in rural communities by applying to the interventions of the

water basin management project - gathering the villages of Kadalo in Blue Nile

State by knowing some of the most important personal characteristics of the

respondents affecting the sustainability of development projects in the study area .

The sustainability of rural development projects and the relationship between the

degree of external support and community participation in the sustainability of rural

development projects in the study area were used the Social Survey Methodology,

designed a questionnaire consisting of (28) questions, select A random sample

randomized 164 respondents from the communities benefiting from the project

services represented 5% of the study population of 3278. The primary data were

collected by means of the questionnaire and the observation and interview tools.

Secondary data were collected from previous studies, The statistical data were

analyzed by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program for the

purpose of obtaining frequency distributions and percentages. The study also used

analytical statistical methods, Spearman correlation coefficient for correlation

analysis, chi square analysis as to measure the independence of variables, and the

Likert analysis for the calculation of averages. The study finding:

67% of the respondents are male, 63% of the respondents in the age group are aged

20- 40 years, 72% of the respondents are married, 43% of the respondents are

illiterate, the degree of community involvement in planning the project activities is

medium. In the attitudes of the respondents on the selection and training of

development committees and their role in spreading knowledge, the value of the

arithmetic mean was (2.70) and the degree of approval was 54.6% with an

unapproved estimate. 57% of respondents said that the reasons that prevented the

community committees from spreading knowledge due to inefficiency and

favoritism in selection, 87.2% confirmed that there is a relationship between the

availability of support and the sustainability of development projects, The average

of respondents was (4.36) with a strongly agreed estimate, 85.6% of respondents

saying that there was a relationship between the discontinuation of the previous

rural development projects and the cessation of external support. 73.8 indicated a

relationship between sustainability and poor infrastructure. The implemented

development programs contributed to improving the living standards of the

respondents by 69.2% The existence of a significant correlation between the

availability of financial support and the sustainability of rural development projects

at a significant level (000.) and the existence of an average correlation relationship

is (0.573**).
