DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ENHANCED CHILD DIAGNOSTIC EXPERT SYSTEM

Detecting diseases in a child at early stage can enable one to overcome some avoidable diseases that can lead to death of the child and treat them appropriately. This system is poised at a greater extent to reduce infant mortality rate. The Enhanced Child Diagnostic Expert System (DExS) can help the nursing mothers, parents, nannies, guidance and crèche teachers even the medical personnel a great deal in identifying specific diseases and describing methods of treatment to be administered. This work adopted the waterfall process model. The proposed system is meant to give advisory to child’s guidance the right treatment approach to take on the ill-child before consulting the doctor which helps in reducing the nervousness on the part of the parents of the child. This project was developed using PHP, CSS, HTML and MySQL. The expected results provide information such as symptoms, disease type, treatment method and drugs to be administered on the child. The result can be treated and kept for further references if the need arises.
