ABSTRACT
The study was an attempt to carry out a survey of the practical skills that can be developed from the farming operations specified as necessary for JOS students acquisition by the National Agricultural Science Curriculum; determine the importance of the selected vegetable gardening and the importance of the selected vegetable gardening and management skills; assess the level of experience expected of JSS students; develop a teaching package and test items for teaching and assessing the acquisition of these identified skills and assess the effect of the package over the existing JSS agricultural science curriculum. The materials developed for use were validated by experts. The study involved 1,600 subjects which comprises of 540 JSS 3 secondary school agricultural science and teachers and 1,060 JSS 3 agricultural science students chosen from Lagos State secondary schools.
The study revealed that for a viable vegetable gardening management, practical gardening skills are very important and should be acquired to a good extent by JSS students.
