Efficacy Of Communications Regulation In The Prevention Of Content Cybercrimes In Tanzania: A Case Of Dar-Es-Salaam City

ABSTRACT

This study assessed the efficacy of communications regulation in the prevention of content cybercrimes in Tanzania, whereby Dar-es-Salaam City was used as a case of study. The study was guided by the specific objectives which aimed at exposing out the extent to which content cybercrimes prevail in Tanzania; effect of the National ICT policy on containing content cybercrimes in the locality; to show the level of content cybercrimes prevention done by communications regulatory instruments in Tanzania, and to uncover the capacity TCRA has, in curtailing false information against the government in Tanzania. The study used mixed methods research approach, whereby quantitative and qualitative techniques were used in data collection, analysis and presentation. The study employed a sample size of 77 participants involving 70 citizens as respondents and 7 public officials (from police force and TCRA) as key informants. Questionnaires, interview guides and documentary check list were employed to collect data. Data analyses have been done through the use of both SPSS and content based techniques to give out statistical and expressive findings. Quantitative data have been presented through frequencies and percentages in tables and figures, while qualitative ones have been put in form of statements and quotations for interpretations.
