Family Planning and Maternal Health in Wakiso Sub County, Wakiso District Uganda

ABSTRACT The study sought to establish the relationship between family planning and maternal health in Wakiso sub-county, Wakiso district. This study was guided by four specific objectives namely; to determine the demographic characteristics of respondent in terms of gender age, marital status and education qualification, ii) to determine the level of family planning, iii) to determine the level of maternal health, iv) to establish whether there is a significant relationship between family planning and maternal health in Wakiso sub-county, Wakiso district. The research employed descriptive correlational design to describe the relationship between the variables. The findings revealed the following: The middle aged respondents 26-35 years are more involved in carrying out family planning methods. The researcher concluded that the level of family planning was generally high in Wakiso sub-county, Wakiso district, and the level of maternal health was found to be satisfactory, hence concluding that hence concluding that maternal health centres do provide maternal health services to women of Wakiso Sub County-Wakiso District efficiently hence leading to satisfaction. Family planning and maternal health are positive and significantly correlated, therefore concluding that increase in family planning levels improves on maternal health services among women in Wakiso Sub County-Wakiso District, and regression analysis which was indicated by adjusted R squared of 42% was established. The researcher recommended that family planning providers should put in action more sensitization techniques like workshops and seminars on family planning education among couples, family planning providers should introduce family planning methods which allow couples to produce children whenever they want.
