Course Description
This course examines individual aspects in Uganda’s labour law under both judge made law and relevant legislation.Labour law is an important component of studies in the regulation of commerce.Students are introduced to the key aspects of laws which determine the rights, entitlements and responsibilities governing the relationship between the employer and individual worker. Both practical and theoretical perspectives on individual labour law are examined.
The duties of employers and employees under the law especially the Employment Act 2006. This course gives the salient provisions in the law with regard to the formation of the employment contract, formalities of forming the contract, duties imposed on both the employee and employer under the contract. It also highlights the obligation of the employer to give leave to the employees.
This course further discusses the modes of terminating the employment contract, rights and duties imposed on either party to the contract upon termination, covenants’ in restraint of trade and remedies for breach of the employment contract. This Course further covers the theory, principles and laws regulating workers in Uganda.
This course also covers the major sources and principles of
labour law through reference to international labour conventions and Uganda’s Acts of Parliament dealing with specifiic aspects such as workers compensation, social security and pension, occupational Health and Safety, Settlement of Labour Disputes
