Motivation and Employee Performance in The Health Sector. A Case Study of Kaproron Health Centre Iv in Kween District in Eastern Uganda.

ABSTRACT

The study assessed the impact of motivation on employee job performance in the health sector especially in Kaproron health Centre IV in Kween district. The respondents involved were the administrators of the health Centre, medical workers and patients. The study hoped to sample 100 respondents but only 60 of them participated in the exercise. The study objectives were to identify different approaches/methods used to motivate employees in the health Centre, to identify the challenges faced by the employer in trying to motivate employees in the health Centre and to suggest possible measures to the challenges facing the employer while trying to motivate employees in the health Centre. The research was generally to find out the cause of the trends that is taking place in the health sector concerning motivation, employee job performance and service delivery. The study findings revealed the main tools of motivation as being work leave, promotions, allowances, health insurance and housing facilities which influenced time management, hard work, commitment and better service delivery. The most noted impact of motivation on employee job performance were; enhances commitment to work, leads to better service delivery. The major challenges facing motivation were; corruption, lack of professionalism and limited fhnding from government among others and the suggestion to reduce these challenges were; formulating strict laws against corruption, establishing staff houses and recruitment of more medical workers. The research concluded that when the employees are motivated through the provision of both intrinsic and extrinsic benefits and both financial and non-financial rewards like promotions, trainings among others makes them to concentrate on their job hence leading to high productivity and better service delivery. The study recommends the following; there is need for more funding by the government, recruitment of more health staff Donors and NGOs support and establishment of staff quarters for accommodation.
