ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to find out parental acceptance in the education of their children with visual impairments among parents with children in the Akropong School for the Blind. The study employed a case study design. A sample of 50 respondents was drawn from the Akropong School for the Blind, comprising parents and their children with visual impairments in the junior high school using simple random and convenience sampling techniques. A self-developed interview schedule was used to collect data. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including frequency counts and percentage. Qualitative data were analyzed by using narration. The outcomes of the study suggested that parents relate with their children with visual impairments using various modes such as chatting with their children regularly, celebrating special occasions with their children, seeking children’s opinions on issues, going to public gathering with them among others. Furthermore, children with visual impairments are supported by their parents in their education through regular visits to check on the welfare of their children, provision of learning materials, and assistance on assignments. It was concluded that parents’ attitude towards children with visual impairment in the Akropong School for the Blind is generally positive. Based on this, it was recommended that parents should be encouraged through advocacy programmes and seminars to understand and appreciate the effects of parent-child relationship on the lives of children who are visually impaired, and also parents should use integrated parenting approaches for the optimum development of their children with visual impairments.
