PHS 307- Environmental Health

The environment is defined as the complex of physical, chemical and biotic factors (as climate, soil, and living things) that act upon an organism or an ecological community and ultimately determine its formand survival. The World Health Organization in 2005, defined health as; “A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Environmental Health is an interdisciplinary academic field, an area of research, and an arena of applied public health practice. Environmental health is a branch of public health which addresses all the physical, chemical, and biological factors external to a person, and all the related factors impacting behaviors. It encompasses the assessment and control of those environmental factors that can potentially affect health. It is targeted towards preventing disease and creating health-supportive environments.
