ABSTRACT The study investigated the relationship between poverty and pupils· Academic performance in selected primary schools in Majanji Sub-County Busia District. The study was catTied out in Majanji Sub-County Busia District. It is located Eastern Uganda. The main objective of this study was to establish the relationship between Povetiy and Academic Performance among pupils in primary schools in Majanji Sub-County Busia District. Specific objectives were to; examine the causes of povetty in Majanji SubCounty Busia District, determine the effects of povctty on pupils· academic performance in Majanji Sub-County Busia District and to suggest the solutions to poverty in Majanji Sub-County Busia District. The researcher used samples comprising of the administrators, staff, and support staff of Majanji Sub-County Busia District, Local Community leaders, Residents and teachers in seleeted primary schools. A section or religious leaders, local council officials and elders of the community were sampled to participate in the study. The research findings indicated that the :11ajority of the respondents smcl there causes or poverty included; \V::irfare, Agriculturai cycles characterized by rdative abundance and scarcity, centralization of power to a given region, corruption in government office ami environmental degradation. The researcher strongly recommends that; the gm crnmcnl :-;lwuld make easy the process of accessing loans in Women i\llicrolinancc Institution because its great contribution towards building institutional image and positive development in the Sub-County.
