Social Learning Approach and in Dependent Action of Mild Mental Challenged Sigowet Division Kericho District Kenya

ABSTRACT This study is on an academic research entitled “social learning approach and independent action of mild mental retarded learners in Sigowet division Kericho District Kenya”. The purpose of the study was to investigate the level of social level and its relationship with the level of independent action of learners with mild mental challenged. The objectives of the study were: to determine the levels of independent action of learners who are mild mental challenged using two groups; experimental and control; to establish the relationship between the level of independent action of experimental and control group of learners who are mild mental challenged using social learning approach; to determine whether there was a significant difference in the level of independent action of learners who are mild mental challenged between the pre test and post test period. The research design employed in the study was experimental. The findings reveals that most learners did not improve on the percentage gain for both groups as revealed in the post test marks. Learners with mild mental challenged faces challenges in learning and this may be due to mental challenged they exhibit. Teaching them required employment of varied learning strategies. The recommendations in the study suggest that in the curriculum functional skills should be included and all stakeholders should advocate for these persons to give opportunities in order to realize their potentials.
