Staff Training and Employee Performance in Bosaso Local Government, Somalia

ABSTRACT

The study sought to establish the staff training and employee performance in Bosaso Local Government, Somalia. The study objectives were; to examine the contributions of staff training at Bosaso Local Government, to analyze the various methods of Staff training used in Bosaso, Somalia and to establish the relationship between staff training and employee performance in Bosaso Local Government, Somalia. This study used correlation research design this was because it involved the relationship between financial staff training and employee performance. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection approaches were employed in this case. Quantitative approach was used because it involved the use of descriptive statistics generated with frequency tables and Variables that were measured in numbers and analyzed with Statistical procedures, while qualitative approach was used because it includes the use of respondents’ responses from the study. The study population included 133 people of which 70 were employees of Bosaso Local government, and then 63 were beneficiaries to Bosaso Local government. These were followed by the researcher where they were currently working (departments) and therefore getting them for interview whether by physical contact or telephone was easy. This therefore means that 100 respondents were involved in the study. After collecting data, the researcher organized well-answered questionnaire, data was edited and sorted for the next stage. The data was presented in tabular form with frequencies and percentages. The study found out that the average mean of Contributions of staff training at Bosaso Local Government in Somalia was 2.39 equivalent to satisfactory which implies that staff training is vital on the overall performance of the Local government. The study also revealed that the average mean of Various methods of Staff Training used in Bosaso Local Government was 2.93 equivalent to satisfactory and this implies that different techniques of staff training have been vital at Bosaso Local Government. The study concluded that managers have different views of how much training is needed for an employee to produce desired performance outcomes. The study recommended that there is also need to conduct and let Employees Attend Seminars and Workshops: also much effort need to be offered to employees to attend seminars and workshops.
