Abstract
The study was conducted to find out the strategies which the county government has employed to education of Maasai girl in primary school in Narok County. The study was guided by the following objectives; to examine reason behind low enrolment of girl child to remain in school, to interrogate the cause of poor completion of class eight girl child in Narok county, to examine the strategies employed by county to retaining a girl child in school and to suggest specific interventions that directly impact on retention of girls in schools. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The study targeted county education officers, teachers, children and head teachers in primary schools in Narok North Sub County. The study used simple random sampling method to select four accessible schools in the sub county. Four teachers, a head teacher and ten students from each school will be randomly selected to participate in the study making a total of 15 respondents from each selected schools and an education officer. Total sample population will be 61 respondents. The main tool of data collection for this study was questionnaires. It was found out that Narok County has been experiencing minimal number of girls completing primary school. The main reason the study found include, early marriages, female genital mutilation, and lack of role model. The study recommends that the county government to allocate more fund for campaign and sensitization of girl child education
