Stress and Employee Performance: A Case Study of Kween District Local Government

ABSTRACT

the study assessed Stress Management on employee performance in selected sub-counties in

(ween District Local Government and was based on four specific objectives: (i) to identify the

actors of stress management in Kween District Local Government (ii) to established the effect

)f stress management on employee performance in Kween District Local Government and (iii).

:o establish the significant relationship between stress management and employee performance

n SSOC - United Nations office for project services in Juba, South Sudan. It employed a

descriptive correlation survey design, Used SAQ to collect data from 118 out of 170 employees,

using simple random sampling. Data analysis was done using SPSS’s frequencies and

~percentages; means and PLCC. The findings showed that to examine the factors of stress

~management in Kween District Local Government was at high level (mean=2.84). the effect of

3tress management on employee performance in Kween District Local Government was at high

Level (rnean2.84). Pearson’s Linear Correlation Coefficient found that Stress Management are

3ignificantly and positively correlated with employee performance (r-0.355, sig.0.000).

Regression analysis results indicated that Stress Management was found responsible for over

11% variation towards employee performance in Kween District Local Government (Adjusted

r20. 110). Both the level of Stress Management and employee performance was high. PLCC

revealed positive and significant relationship between Stress Management and employee

performance. The researcher recommended that if employee performance is to improve; the

organization should train and motivate its staff and the stake holders in order to overcome the

issue of organizational stress and should see to it that they teach morals and behaviors to their

staff in order also to overcome the problem of behavioral stress, The organization management

should see to it that it pays its staff in time and give them fringe benefits in order to motivate

them and not to be stressed. Kween District Local Government should ensure that they provide

adequate recognition for employee’s efforts, which in return will be reflected in their pay

packages. Develop the ways of how to react actively against stress and active coping

mechanisms. Learn the skills of relaxation, motivation, and increasing self-confidence these

practices are proved helpful to overcome stress or to prevent stress from maximization. . It is

important to understand that for the organization to achieve its stated goals management in the

organization should provide employees with financial rewards as a form of motivation in order to

enhance high performance
