This comprehensive academic paper critically examines the impact of globalization on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) profession in the Philippines from an anti-imperialist perspective. Globalization has brought both opportunities and challenges to the ICT industry, shaping the dynamics of the profession. By analyzing relevant treaties, such as the World Trade Organization's (WTO) General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), this paper explores how these agreements have influenced the ICT profession in the Philippines, with a particular focus on their implications for local professionals. It argues that globalization, driven by these treaties, perpetuates inequalities and reinforces the dominance of multinational corporations (MNCs) in the ICT sector, undermining the growth and autonomy of the local ICT profession.
