ABSTRACT

The study has examined, “The Role of Church in averting Mob Justice at Kibaigwa

Township in Konawa District”. In the midst of failure and collapse of the criminal

justice system, the study focused on assessing the role of Church in averting mob

justice practices.

A sample of 100 respondents was selected in the study. Data collection employed

questionnaires, in-depth interviews and documentary reviews. The table, figure, and

the frequency were used for data analysis. The theories relating to this study were

employed to familiarize the reader.

The study reveals that, people still believe in the word of God and see priests as

persons worth listening to; also, the Church has a greater impact on changing people

behavior pattern including mob justice. However, the ability of Church to avert mob

justice is limited to lack of fellowship within the church, poor collaboration among

Christian denominations furthermore, Church disseminate less information relating

to mob justice, laws and human rights.

The study recommends that, Church should not only rely on biblical teaching alone

but also should disseminate information on orders and laws of the state. Moreover,

the church should improve the sense of fellowship and collaboration within

denominations. The judicial system should improve transparency and reduce

bureaucracy as well as amending legislations that create loopholes for persistence of

crimes. And the police force should improve their resources including man power

and facilities. Lastly the study suggests some areas of further researches for mob

justice.
