                       Abstract

This research work examined the role of informal Sector in employment generation in

Ilorin, kwara state Nigeria. The study made use of primary data obtained from 100

respondents from Ilorin West Local Government in kwara state through the copies of

questionnaire administered. The data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics

and statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The outcome of the empirical

investigations showed that informal sector contribute immensely in providing several

jobs and income for the individual household members who were either unemployed or

underpaid in their formal jobs. The findings of this study suggests that if government can

formulate and establish sound economic policies having in mind to involve the informal

sector as an agent of change and promotion of the social economic development, it would

go a long way in providing more employment opportunities.
