An Assessment Of Motivational Factors Influencing Performance Of Professional Nurses In Tanzania: A Case Study Of Post Registered Nurses Studying At St. John’s University Of Tanzania, Dodoma

ABSTRACT

The main objective of this study was to assess motivational factors influencing performance of professional nurses in Tanzania taking as a case study of post registered nurses studying at St. John‟s university of Tanzania, Dodoma municipality. The study was conducted in Dodoma municipal Tanzania. A crosssectional research design was used where by data were collected from more than one case at a single point in time from nurses related on the motivation factors for performance. Questionnaires, Interview and documentary review methods were used during data collection. Both Probability and non probability sampling techniques were used to select respondents. Qualitative data collected were analyzed by using content analysis method. Quantitative data collected were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer program version 18. The results of data analysis were presented inform of text and tables. The study indicates that motivational factors which negatively affected nurses were shortage of professional nurses, long working hours and workplace hazards and injuries. The findings also indicate that motivational factors identified that were positively affect performances of professional nurses were good interpersonal relations at work, good working environment and management appreciation; it was observed that less than half of all nurses are fairly satisfied with their current jobs.
