An Evaluation Of The Nigeria Educational System: Application Of Dewey’s Educational Strategies As A Way Forward

An education comprises the holistic development of an individual's skills in the three areas of physical development, intellectual growth, and moral development. While such, education pertains only to human beings, as all other species are just trained in these three areas. A careful approach to education is required because of the complexities involved in developing cognitive, effective, and psychomotor skills as well as the three domains of life. Different nations confront various educational difficulties, which means they must figure out how to make education relevant for their population in the first place. Our goal in this work is to discuss the possibility of implementing a practical and reliable educational method that can assist Nigeria in realizing its long-term educational goals, as it is clear that the country's current educational method falls far short of achieving these lofty educational objectives. As a result, Dewey's Pedagogy was selected since it provides us with the philosophical foundation upon which we may create a genuine educational approach. Dewey came up with a "learner-centered" approach to education, in which the student takes the main role in the educational process. When a student is motivated by concerns that are very personal to him or her, Dewey believed, the learner performance increases. Nevertheless, the philosophical technique of hermeneutics would be used in order to thoroughly examine and properly apply Dewey's educational philosophy. Correct interpretation and application of Dewey pedagogy will definitely help Nigeria to reposition the educational subject matter around the social life of learners, bring about an attitude change among the educated masses, re-evaluate education taxonomy and ensure that education is democratized in Nigeria. A superior educational choice has therefore been proposed for consideration by Nigerian Educational Policy Makers.
