AN ASSESSMENT OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE NIGERIAN BUSINESS ORGANIZATION (A CASE STUDY OF FIRST CITY MONUMENT BANK

ABSTRACT

This research study on “An assessment of corporate social responsibility” examined corporate social responsibility as both a concept and a practice. The researcher took a look at corporate social responsibility concept such as the history and meaning, perspectives, approaches, the cases for the against increased social responsibility, corporate social responsibility to stakeholders etc. the major objective of this study was to examine the practice of corporate social responsibility in a Nigerian company. To get correct information, the primary and secondary sources of data collection were used. As seen in chapter 3, the primary source included information gathered through the use of a well-structured questionnaire, while the secondary sources included the use of already existing materials such as textbooks related to the problem; the internet was also used. The study adopted the survey methodology of data analytical which was evident in the use of tables and analytical statistics as seen in chapter 4 to examine data collected through the questionnaire. Hypotheses formulated in chapter 1 were tested using the chi-square (X2) method of hypotheses testing. The study found out that the firm under observation practices corporate social responsibility, and that corporate social responsibility impacts employees commitment. Organizations should therefore ensure that they practice corporate social responsibility and incorporate its plans and policies into their strategic objectives. Organizations should also ensure that they treat every stakeholder group fairly.
