ABSTRACT
This study was carried out in Nairobi city, Kenya. The purpose of the study was to find out the challenges faced by the media when combating ten"Orism. The study used both qualitative and quantitative methods to do the research. Data collection methods were thinks like questionnaires and both formal and infonnal interviews. The study revealed several causes ofterr01ism, their effects and some of the problems the media personalities face when trying to combat terrorism. The study recognized that the however free the media is in an open society, they are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and manipulation by the ruthless terrorist organizations. It also found out that the media are in a kind of a symbiotic with terrorism. The study findings concluded that the media plays a very important role in trying to combat tenorism. The Kenyan govennnent has accepted the reality that terrorism has established its roots in Kenya and has responded to combat the threat with the help of the media
