Commercialization and Employee Motivation A Case Study of Power Holding Company of Nigeria Enugu.

ABSTRACT

The global economic recession of the 1980s was instrumental to the stimulation of different structural adjustment programs like commercialization and privatization in other to cushion its effect on the socio-economic wellbeing and development of the affected economic systems like that of Nigeria. The power sector being one of the major determinants of economic prospects of the Nigerian society yet not measuring up to expectations was considered for restructuring hence the commercialization of the sector. This research work was however inspired by the fact that there was relatively little or no obvious consideration or study on how commercialization of the power sector may affects the employees’ motivation and how the motivation of employees in the sector can help to facilitate a viable electricity system which the proponents of commercialization of power sector hope to achieve. Conclusively, it has been proved that employees need to be adequately motivated via training and communication of the values, processes and principles of the commercialization policy. Hence, commercialization and employees’ motivation in the power sector should be complementarily emphasized if efficiency must be achieved in the worthwhile sector.
