Comparative Analysis of Practical Skills Acquisition in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Training Program in Accra and Kumasi Polytechnics in Ghana.

This research was designed to comparatively analyze practical skills acquisition in the Electrical/Electronic Engineering department in Accra and Kumasi Polytechnics. The study population was made of 578 students in the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the two study institutions respectively. A sample size of 25% was randomly selected from the total population. A total number of 145 questionnaires were distributed and 123 completed questionnaires were received making a response rate of 84.82%. Out of this, 73 were respondents from Kumasi while the remaining 50 were Accra respondents. The researcher collected primary data using a questionnaire. Findings revealed that practical lessons are less frequent. Inadequate training resources such as obsolete equipment and machines in the institutions, few expendable materials required to be used together with the equipment and machines for practicals,  inadequate budget for industrial training were revealed as the reasons for the less practical training in the institutions. It was recommended that adequate training resources must be installed to ensure effective practicals. Also realistic and enough budget for industrial training be made to practically expose students to up-to-date skills required in the industries
