Utilisation of Internet by Students of the Faculty of Technical Education at the University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus

  • ABSTRACT

In this research, majority of the students use mobile phones (smart phones)/laptops thus 

55(40.44%) with 53(38.97%) using their smart phones as the main device for accessing the 

internet. The respondents also confirmed the internet has helped significantly improved their 

academic work or studies generally with all 136(100%) saying yes to the question with 131 

students using the internet on a daily basis. 63 and 32 of the students spend averagely 1-5hours 

and 6-10hours on the net per day respectively. 31(22.8%) of the students use the internet 

purposely for studying, information gathering and searching.

The highest difficulty(s) faced by students in using the internet was slow speed with 88 students 

mentioning it whiles lack of knowledge about searching was the least difficulty with only 5 

students facing that problem.

Students generally have a positive attitude towards the internet since majority of the 29.4% said 

it allows them to get more information, improves communication, important for studying materials with 16.9% choosing all the six responses provided. All 136 said the internet has helped improve their academic work greatly but rated average the internet service on their campus 46(33.8%).
