Environmental Impact Analysis of Dumpsites on The Geographical Element (Soil and Water). A Case Study of Anka Local Government.

                                                     Abstract

The Comparative assessment of environmental impact analysis of dumpsites on the geographical element; soil and water. The study will show the effect of dumpsites on the health of an individual in the community. Three water samples will be collected that are nearness to the dumpsites and analyze for physicochemical parameters, following parameters pH, electrical conductivity EC (µs/cm), total dissolved solid (TDS), Sulfate, Chloride (Cl), Bicarbonate, Nitrate ( (NO)-2), TC (cfu/100mL), Sodium, Potassium (K), Magnesium (Mn), Calcium (Ca), Manganese (Mg),  Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Lead (Pb), Chromium (Cr), Iron (Fe),Arsenic (As.)  major ions, and the trace metals. Three soil samples will be collected from the dumpsites and analyze for heavy metals for soil. The study investigates concentrations of heavy metal in the waste dumpsites and the groundwater near the dumpsite in Anka Local Government, Zamfara- Nigeria. The results indicate that majority of the heavy metal detected were beyond the standard for World Health Organization (WHO) why the remain were within the standard. It was observed that some dumpsites have higher concentration of these metals (heavy metals) than others; this could be attributed to the presence of waste carrying heavier amount of these heavy metals. The Application of WQI suggests that the groundwater around the dumpsite is poor in quality. The study has shown that leachate from the dumpsite is a threat to shallow groundwater sources around the study area. Hence a stop should be put to the dumping of waste at this site. The most effective way to reduce/eliminate the impact of these heavy metals on the environment is to develop and implement an effective waste management plan. Plans to identify the materials and wastes at a particular site.
