ABSTRACT
Nursing services are undergoing many changes due to technological changes, increased health demand and morbidities due to non-communicable disease, malnutrition and maternal health complication. This trend necessitates regular review of curriculum to address all emerging issues. The study evaluated CBET curriculum in improving nurse students’ knowledge and skill in Zanzibar Nursing Training Institution. It, specifically, sought to assess the level of knowledge among nurse students, to assess the level of skill among nurse students’ under, to assess factors influencing nurse students’ knowledge and skill under CBET curriculum and to compare semester examination score with the national mock examination score. To evaluate whether the applied CBET curriculum improved knowledge and skills among nursing student.
The study employed 344 respondents as its sample size and used analytical cross-sectional research design. The study, also, employed a standardized licensure mock exam to test the knowledge and skills of final year nursing student. In this respective study, purposive sampling technique and convenience strategy was used to select institutions and Diploma student’s nurses. Data were collected through structure questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive and inferential ways.
Findings of the study indicated that majority of nursing students 308 (89.5%) had adequate knowledge and 287 (83.4%) had adequate skill. Adequate number of experienced teachers was associated with good levels of knowledge (AOR: 2.07, 95% CI: 5.11 - 9.52, p
