Factors Affecting Project Performance in Non-Governmental Organisations: The Case of Jigjiga City in Somali Regional State

Abstract

The general objective of this study was to examine the factors affecting project performance in Somali region: the case of NGOS in Jigjiga city. The study was employed a descriptive survey method. In purposive sampling technique, Jigjiga city administration was selected as a purposively sampling technique based on geographical sites, favorable for transportation accessibility and other social services were selected. Hence, staff from NGOs, experts in Bureaus and Customers from project areas were about 170 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques, because of their numbers are small and no need selecting one from other and also in reference to their responsibilities to project activities due to their jurisdiction. The researcher was employed both qualitative and quantitative methods of data analysis. Accordingly, descriptive statistics such as percentages and means were used to describe the data by the help of tables, and figures. After interpretation of data major findings included that majority of the respondents are dominated by male as 80% indicating that more males are involved in the projects as compared to female20%. This illustrates that gender imbalance exist non-governmental organizations in Somali region, in addition, the finding of this study reveal majority 79% and 15% of the respondents answer strongly agree and agree Cash flow of project is one of the cost factor that affect project performance. Hence, the study revealed majority 57% and 35% of the respondents answer strongly agree and agree that planned time for project completion is factor that affect project performance. Yet, the study reveal majority 45% and 26% of the respondents answer strongly agree and agree that availability of personnel with high experience is factor that the affect quality on project performance. Finally, conclusions were drawn from the factors derived from the findings of the summary of the study. Recommendations for correcting the factors affect on project performance were based on conclusions drawn in the study. Key words: Purposive Sampling, Imbalance, Cash flow, Project Completion
