The thesis examines how to improve tourism in Kenya and actualize untapped potential. The study compares Kenya’s tourism with South Africa, with the aim to providing a measurable benchmark for the sector in Kenya to emulate in order to increase the economic input it has on the country’s GDP. It seems as though tourism in South Africa is a far much success story as compared to Kenya. The study seeks to ascertain that the tourism sector in South Africa out performs Kenya’s by comparing performance of the two countries over a period of ten years, between 2007 and 2017. Through examining the various factors that contribute to the success of tourism in South Africa as compared to Kenya, the discussion seeks to bring out what needs to be done in the Kenyan Tourism sector to maximize benefits associated with tourism.
