FIBRE OPTIC IN RESERVOIR SENSING

Fibre optic technologies

came out of military and space research and development programme. Until

recently, glass chemistry and laser interrogation hardware have not been at a

level of robust where systems could survive in down-hole environments for long

periods. Because of the physical properties, glass can thrive as a sensor at

extremely high temperatures and efficiently high temperatures and efficiently

transmit large quantities of data where as in the past, one may have been

limited to a couple of sensing points per well.
