Energy Audit Of Timber Log Processing In Southwestern Nigeria

Abstract Timber log processing is an energy intensive process which involves converting log into lumber of different sizes and shapes using different and varied methods. The energy supply problems facing Nigeria have adversely affected many log processing industry in the country leading to self-generation of energy. There have been various energy audits in some industries but with little or no attention on the log processing industry in Nigeria. Thus, this study investigated the pattern of en...

Energy And Exergy Analyses Of Malt Drink Production In Nigeria

abstract Energy requirements and exergy inefficiencies for processing of malt drink were estimated for a Nigerian brewery. The process was divided into twenty-one basic unit operations and grouped into four main group operations: silo house, brew house, filter room and packaging house. The energy intensity for processing a batch of 9.8 tonnes brew grains to 562 hl of malt drink was estimated as 261.63 MJ/hl consisting of electrical (41.01%), thermal (58.81%) and manual (0.19%) of the total en...

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF CORROSION INHIBITORS IN PIPELINES USING CANNON AMURICATA (CM) AND CASSUTTIDFILIFURMIS LEAF (CF) PLANT EXTRACTS

The inhibitive strength of Canonamuricata (CM) and Cassuttidfilifurmis (CF) on mild steel dissolution in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1 M HCl environment was studied using gravimetric and electrochemical techniques. The results obtained indicate that all studied extracts of both plants are adsorption type inhibitors hence; the adsorption of the inhibitors is in line with Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Efficiencies of the inhibitors increased with an increase in concentration of the extract but decreas...

Optimization of Cutting Parameters in Turning Operation of EN24 Steel with Minimum Lubrication

ABSTRACT This experimental study optimized the cutting parameters (depth of cut, feed rate, spindle speed) in turning EN24 steel (0.4% C) with hardness 40+2 HRC. In this, turning operation were carried out on EN24 steel by carbide P-30 cutting tool with minimum lubrication and the combination of the optimal levels of the parameters was obtained. In order to study the performance characteristics in turning operation, Taguchi method (consisting of the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (S-N Ratio) and A...

Experimental Study of Passive Cooling of a Building Using Long-Wave Night Sky Radiation in Owerri, Nigeria KY RADIATION IN OWERRI, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT An experimental study of the passive cooling of a building using longwave night sky radiation in Owerri, Nigeria is presented. The experimental rig consists of a standard (3.0 x 3.0 x 2.5m) room, flat plate sky radiator, heat exchanger, storage tank, water pump, interconnecting pipes and another standard room to act as control for the experiment. This test rig is a rectangular building made from 15.24cm hollow blocks. It has two windows located in the east and the south facing wa...

Appraisal of Industrial Accidents and Their Effects on Profitability (A Case Study of Two Manufacturing Companies)

ABSTRACT Appraisal of industrial accidents and their effects on profitability are presented. Two manufacturing companies, The Nigerian Bottling company, Owerri, and the Nigerian Breweries, Aba were selected for the study which covered a period of three business years (2011–2013). Data collection was through administration of questionnaires and personal interviews of some strategic staff of the Companies. The data were analyzed using Mean Percentage Method. The results showed that th...

Pure Pursuit Algorithm and Autonomous Driving

Pure Pursuit Algorithm is a commonly used path-tracking algorithm that in autonomous driving applications determines the steering rate necessary for the vehicle to stay on track. The aim of the project is to set up a simulation of a moving UGV and experiment with different mathematical solutions to improve the existing technology, making it suitable for a wider spectrum of applications. The main result produced by this research is a Modified Follow the Carrot Algorithm capable of high accurac...

IMPROVEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION OF A PROTOTYPE OF AN INDUSTRIAL (S1 MODEL) POULTRY FEED MIXING MACHINE

This is a thesis on the improvement of an S1 grinding machine. It has an overview from description of machine, material selection, design and a developed summary to help understand how improvement can be made. ABSTRACT  The  need  for  improved  productivity  in  the  agricultural  industry  cannot  be  over-emphasised. One of the key factors that influence this is increased availability of feed for animals. The use of mixing machines rather than hand-mixing ensures greater availa...

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION OF HAMMER MILL MACHINE

Processing involves conversion of raw materials into varied forms of finished products. It is carried out in different fields of science and engineering. Agro and Agro allied industry, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, ceramic, civil engineering industries etc are involved in processing. The breakdown of large stones to an acceptable size for road construction is the business of the quarry industry (civil engineering). The grinding (milling) of clay materials for the purpose of production o...

A Model for Economic Production in Manufacturing Industries Under Unstable Power Supply.

The research study presents the development of a model for Energy cost in manufacturing industries under irregular power supply. The work considers power consumption in the operation of production machines, hence cost incurred in running of these machines Parameters such as machine types for production, numbers of machine types for production and power ratings of machines for production were also considered in the development of the model The study employs linear programming approach in formu...

THE FABRICATION FOR A SET OF SIEVES AND SAKER

ABSTRACT The fabrication of a set of sieves and shaker was carried out in paliton workshop, Enugu. After a thorough analysis on the suitable materials to be used in fabrication, galvanized steel was chosen due to its advantages over materials of fabrication. The fabrication was carried out in order to analyze the sizes of particles. The component parts of the sets of sieve and their dimensions are as follows: Height of sieve 5.5cm Number of sieves 7 Diameter of sieve 13.5cm Shape of sieve ci...

FABRICATION OF THE A METALLIC BOOKSHELF

ABSTRACT  Knowledge could only be obtained successively by the use of books for research. This can be achieved only by preserving books already purchased. As a result we fabricate a metallic shelf made up of metallic sheet. Precisely mild steel sheets. The mild steel used for the fabrication of the shelf is 1.5mm (16gauge) mild steel.  The shelf is made up of 3 partition. In fabricating the metallic shelf several process where involved. We plundered on the material to be used that can hold ...
