Free Primary Education Policy And Academic Performance Of Primary Schools In Mosiro Zone, Narok North District, Kenya

ABSTRACT 

This research study was intended to establish the effectiveness of fi'ee primary education in Kenya with j\;Josiro zone within Narok North district serving as an illustrative example. In the gathering of secondcny source iliformation, all other scholars· 11•orks viewed relevant to the study were utilized.

The study employed a descriptive design since much of this study was qualitative in nature. Questionnaires and interview guides were used to collect data .fi"om the key infcmnams. It was revealed fi"om the findings of the study that althoughfi'ee education

policy has enahled pupils who would have not otherwise joined school, a perceptible influx of pupils was noted on its introduction. The increased enrolment of ne1v students has therefore brought whh it challenges. Recommendations were made and these calledfor government intervention by endeavouring to give fi·ee and quality

education that serves the needs of the citizemy through:

Ensuring that jimds released for the fi'ee primmy programme are well managed, it therejr;re needs- to continuously audit the financial reports even (f it calls for employment of independent auditors. Increase to cater for emerging financial quagmires like the global credit crunch. In this regard a trust fimd should be established to cushion the programme against hard.financial times this will ensure that the programme is sustainable. Seminars to sensitize parents and teachers on the importance of'the progrannne and ways they can help in making it a success.
