Fund Management Practices In Non-Governmental Organizations (Ngos) A Case Study Of Tabora Region In Tanzania

ABSTRACT

Fund management is a critical function in organizations success. As a result, organization that manage their finances well have higher chances of success. Most NGOs in Tanzania are operating under poor financial performance and others fail even to submit annual activity reports and annual financial audited report at the end of each calendar year, to the donors, government and other stakeholders. This problem is attributed in failure to meet financial obligations during operation, poor planning, poor risk management, poor management and control of funds during the operations of the organization.

The objective for this study was to examine fund management practices on NGOs in Tanzania and the specific objectives were to assess factors affecting fund management activities, to examine how NGOs manage fund with regard to planning and monitoring system and to examine internal control system activities for fund management in the NGOs. Taking a case study of Tabora Region, the study sampled was 104 employees’ staff of NGOs, however only 102 questionnaires were found to be included in the analysis. After data collection, spreadsheet was prepared on SPSS and Microsoft Excel and simple descriptive statistics was applied. The findings indicated that fund management practice at NGOs was regular and fund are managed well. The study concludes that planning, monitoring and internal control system produce efficient and effective fund management practices in NGOs.
